All Ireland Credit Union Quiz Runners Up!
9th Apr 2025
We extend a massive congratulations to our wonderful quizzers who truly excelled at the All Ireland final of the Credit Union Quiz in the RDS on Sunday with 88 teams participating from all 32 counties of Ireland.
Roundwood NS was represented by an Under 11 team (Colm, Oonagh, Ana Leigh and Nathan along with subs Daisy, Quin and Aidan) and an Under 13 team (Charlie, Mark, Brandon and Caoimhe). Our Under 11 team was fantastic throughout all qualifying rounds of the quiz and qualified for the All Ireland final on the first time of asking! They worked very hard in advance of the All Ireland and displayed a great motivation and zeal for learning. They faced challenging and difficult questions and they acquitted themselves really well and finished in the top 10 scores on the day. We thank all the parents who supported the children at home with learning off of general knowledge on sheets for many weeks beforehand! Most importantly, they enjoyed the memorable day and exhibited our An Tochar values, particularly "championing others" when they championed the school's Under 13 team who fought a hard battle on Sunday. As mentioned, our Under 13 team faced a tough challenge and were in joint 1st place after round 3 and and again at the halfway mark (round 6) with Gaelscoil Ui Riada from Cork. They lost ground in the following 3 rounds and with just 1 round remaining managed to claw themselves back into 2nd place (just one point behind 1st place). Parents, teachers and supporters faced an agonising and tension-filled wait after the final round of questions were asked as everyone had to then wait for the answers to be corrected and collated. Eventually, after what seemed like an eternity, the final results were revealed on the big screens of the Main Hall in the RDS. Roundwood NS finished in joint 1st place with Quignamanger NS from Ballina, Co Mayo and St Beacon's NS from Mullinavat, Co Kilkenny! There was absolute joy and elation amongst the parents, teachers, supporters and the pupils themselves. The 3 schools then faced a tie break round of questions and, following the tie break, Roundwood NS finished All Ireland runners up. This is a huge achievement for our wonderful school. The school wins 750 euro and a silver cup while the children received individual prizes and plaques for their efforts. Well done to everyone on a truly memorable day!A huge thank you to Mr Flood for all his preparation with the pupils - it would not have been possible without his dedication and support.
