STEM Month - Week 3
This week, Ms. Comyn visited Junior Infants and Senior Infants, conducting captivating science experiments. This provided the children with the opportunity to step into the role of scientists, formulating hypotheses, making predictions, discussing results, and drawing conclusions.
Ms. O'Byrne coordinated a STEM challenge for 5th and 6th class pupils. Working in groups, each allocated 50 points, students could use these points to "purchase" A4 paper, paper clips and a 10cm length of sellotape. With these materials, each group was tasked with constructing a 50cm bridge (using no other materials) capable of supporting a toy car. The creativity and innovative ideas showcased by the children in meeting this challenge were fascinating. The 5th and 6th class students not only successfully completed the task but also created a PowerPoint presentation, presenting their project at the STEM assembly this Friday. This presentation can be downloaded below and viewed on our school website.
The third class was actively engaged in building their STEPS Engineers projects. Meanwhile, students from Junior Infants to second classes were tasked with estimating the number of sweets in a jar. All classes enthusiastically took part in various STEM challenges throughout the week.
